Changes

Nothing ever changes

Oh, sure, first the day and then the month become the next

And that dreadful chaos must show up in December

But it is all the same

Occasional moments require us to abandon the droll

The new neighbors, who we watch to make sure we still have better stuff

A new car, thank GOD, a new car

They force us to gaze somewhere else, however normal it all is

Our banal existence wrapped in a celebration of…acquisitions

Money, have it, and it is your right to have more

Have it not, and despair and evil thoughts become your constant companions

More and more of it printed so it can be spent

Like the empty vessel lost at sea

We bounce aimlessly toward some destination, unseen, unknown

No one truly searching for us

For they cannot find themselves
