Louisa

The bird on the stake

Louisa, the name I’ve given her

For Louis, you see

Is her partner and love

As she nibbles away

On a big wreath of delights

Louisa will share

Her treats with good ol’ Louis

I look for a third

Smaller and more fragile

Perhaps they are also sharing

With a still unseen nester?

They are cardinals, of course

Though he much more red

He, easier to spot

She, the lady of their nest

Today also brought

A chipmunk and squirrel

To the feast called

“Anthony’s Backyard Menagerie”

Who calls it so?

She is named Nichola

As precious to me

As Louisa to her Louis
