Kansas’ Board of Regents says any faculty member can be kicked to the curb

Inside Higher Ed has the details.

Giving just one day’s notice to the faculty governance chairs at its universities, the Kansas Board of Regents voted this week to allow for emergency employee terminations and suspensions. Tenured professors are no exception.

All nine voting regents approved the temporary policy, which takes effect immediately and expires at the end of 2022.

RIP, NBCSN?

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has the details.

“We’re absolutely committed more than ever to live sports as a company, and having such a huge platform like USA Network airing some of our key sports content is great for our partners, distributors, viewers and advertisers alike,” NBC Sports Group chairman Pete Bevacqua told the Wall Street Journal.

Ugh. One New Jersey university might dump 25% of its faculty

The following is an excerpt from today’s Chronicle of Higher Education coronavirus blog:

William Paterson University of New Jersey is eyeing severe cuts in its academic enterprise, including eliminating as much as one-quarter of its full-time faculty, NJ.com reports. Administrators have proposed laying off 60 to 100 faculty members in response to a budget deficit spurred by the pandemic, the president of the faculty union told the newspaper. The university has also proposed cutting 10 academic programs.

“We have been transparent with the campus community in discussing that layoffs would sadly be unavoidable as we ensure that our students continue to receive an excellent education,” said Stuart Goldstein, the university’s vice president for marketing and public relations. “At this point, we are in the very early stages of a negotiated process.”

The man who topped the Babe

The man who topped the Babe

And did it with reviews so rave

Hammerin’ Hank Aaron

There is no better Brave

His time on Earth is over

But the memories will live on

A black man, a legend

755 times, the ball was gone

Ask yourself this question

Consider it long and deep

Would it be Ruth, Bonds or Aaron

If you had just one to keep?

Hank would be your choice

He’s your “A” plan

A player of top quality

And an even better man
