England and Scotland are heading into varying degrees of lockdown as the leaders of each country seek to again rein in an out-of-control coronavirus.
Meanwhile, the soon-to-be former president of the United States continues to press lunatic conspiracy ideas about why he lost the election. (And if one Scottish newspaper has it right, Donald Trump might scamper out of Washington the day before Joe Biden is inaugurated.)
We know Trump cares little about the nation’s health; he obviously has washed his hands of the pandemic, having done nothing to rally Americans to fight the good fight against it. Under his watch, more than 350,000 Americans have died from coronavirus.
When Biden assumes the presidency, one of his first challenges will be to gauge whether a lockdown will be required to combat the rising cases around the country. Yes, the vaccines are starting to be rolled out, but we know it will take months for them to reach the widest possible number of Americans.
It would appear Americans are resigned to more deaths and more cases before the cliched corner is turned. Whether that means there’s interest in some form of lockdown won’t be known during the remaining days of Trump’s presidency.
