After a year like we had, it might be foolish to predict what might happen over the next 12 months.
Nevertheless, here we go:
- The Supreme Court will retain most of the Affordable Care Act, but kill the individual mandate
- The Dow Jones Industrial Average will end the year around 31,500 (it begins it around 30,000)
- At least 10 U.S. colleges or universities will announce plans to close from a combination of financial losses because of coronavirus and declining enrollments because of demographic changes
- The Biden administration will propose cancelling billions of dollars of student debt, and the Republicans will successfully block such plans. That’s because….
- Republicans will have a 51-49 majority in the Senate following the two elections in Georgia
- Google will bend to political reality and cut a deal with the government preventing the tech giant from being carved up
- U.S. diplomatic relations with China will worsen, but will improve with Iran
- At least one North American major sports league will be forced to significantly delay their season because coronavirus remains a dangerous and stubborn foe
- The delayed 2020 Tokyo Olympics will take place, but the Japanese government will allow few fans into the events
- Enough Americans will take the coronavirus vaccine in the first six months of the year allowing for a slow but steady return to normal in the back half of the year
