China’s Xi promises $2-billion to fight coronavirus; Trump cries foul

The New York Times reports China has been handed a major international victory in the fight to contain coronavirus.

President Xi Jinping of China announced at the start of the forum that Beijing would donate $2 billion toward fighting the coronavirus and dispatch doctors and medical supplies to Africa and other countries in the developing world.

Meanwhile, Trump refused to address the global assembly.

And spare me the “China is trying to buy silence over how it handled the initial stages of the outbreak.” I’m reminded that “he who pays the piper calls the tune.”

Furman University eliminates two men’s sports

According to The State, the sports cuts are part of a series of decisions to combat the economic loss from coronavirus.

Furman is also cutting the salaries of the president and senior administrators and implementing furloughs and budget reductions, the school announced. The University is planning to have classes in person this fall.

East Carolina University to eliminate one sport amid economic fallout from coronavirus

According to the Raleigh News and Observer,

East Carolina last dropped a sport when it discontinued men’s soccer in 2005. It added women’s lacrosse as its 20th sponsored sport in 2016. The minimum number of sponsored sports in the American Athletic Conference is 16.
