Coronavirus dooms 3 colleges in Vermont; all will close

According to WCAX-TV,

Northern Vermont University– Johnson and NVU Lyndon– would shut down under the plan. So would the Vermont Technical College in Randolph.

The Vermont State Colleges System was already in financial trouble from declining enrollment, revenues and competition. And then the pandemic happened and more than $5 million was reimbursed to students for room and board and moving to remote instruction. …

The closures affect about 2,000 students and 500 employees, primarily in the most economically challenged region of Vermont.

Muslims urged to pray at home during Ramadan

According to the Saudi Gazette,

In a statement, the Council of Senior Scholars said: “Muslims should set an example by performing their religious duties while adhering to the preventive and precautionary measures issued by relevant authorities in the countries they live in.”


NY TIMES: Coronavirus hastens exodus from biggest U.S. cities

The lesson from this New York Times’ story: If you can leave America’s biggest cities, now might be the time to do it.

Before the pandemic, millennials and older members of Generation Z were already increasingly choosing smaller metro areas like Tucson, Ariz.; Raleigh, N.C.; and Columbus, Ohio, according to Mr. Frey. Also growing were exurbs and newer suburbs outside large cities.

NY TIMES: Piece of paper thought to be source of coronavirus spread in Afghanistan

According to the New York Times,

A document was thought to be the most likely source of contagion in the palace, Reuters reported, but it could not be independently confirmed. The Afghan president has a penchant for reading; he spends many evenings poring over government documents at his residence, and often rewrites strategy papers drafted by his officials.

The flow of people into the palace has been reduced. Visitors are sprayed with disinfectant head to toe and subject to temperature checks before they are frisked by elite guards in hazmat suits.
